Banner Self-Service Leave Request

This article reviews how to submit leave requests in Banner Self-Service.

Environment

Banner Self-Service in a desktop browser.

Steps

  • Navigate to Banner Self-Service as you normally would.
  • If you are unfamiliar with Banner Self-Service 9 navigation, review our navigation article.
  • Click "Employee" in the menu.

  • Click "Employee Self-Service (9x)"

  • This will bring you to your Employee Dashboard.
  • Click "Request Time Off" on the right side menu.

  • Select "Start Leave Request" in the time period for which you wish to take leave.

  • You will see the calendar for a week at a time. To move to an earlier day in the week, use the arrow to the left. To move later in the week, use the arrow to the right.
  • Click on the day you wish to request time off on.
  • Click "Select Earn Code" from the "Earn Code" drop down menu.
  • Select "Vacation Time" or "Sick Time" accordingly.

  • A new box entitled "Units" shows up. Units is synonymous with days. Enter the number of days you wish to take off. 
  • Click "Save" at the bottom right of the screen.

  • Note at the top right it now says "Leave Request data succesfully saved." Saved does NOT mean submitted. You have more work to do.
  • Also note that under the calendar for the week it shows the Vacation Days and Units.
  • Note to the right there is a pencil icon allowing you to edit the request.
  • Note to the right a Circle with a minus sign icon indicating that you can delete this leave request.
  • Note the square within a square icon indicating that you can copy this leave request to another day.

  • In most cases you will be done here. If you wish, you can copy the leave request. Click the Copy option which is the square within a square to copy if you so choose.
  • You will see a new window pop up.
  • You have the option to copy your leave request to the end of the pay period. Remember we get paid the 15th and last day of the month. If those days fall on a non business day, we get paid the prior business day. Unless you work weekends, you should not include Saturdays or Sundays.
  • You can also select days from the calendar to add to your leave request.
  • When done, click the blue Save button.

  • Note that the copied instances now show on the calendar.

  • Note that saving the leave request does not submit it for approval. Clicking Preview at the bottom of the screen will display a detailed view of your leave request and allow you to submit an optional comment.
  • Click the Submit button at the bottom right.

  • Note at the top right it says "Leave Request successfully submitted".

  • Click "Return" at the bottom right.

  • Click "Exit Page" at the bottom left.

  • This brings you back to the initial "Leave Request" page.
  • Note your new leave request is pending approval.
  • Clicking on the i in a circle to the right of your pending request gives your more information about the status of your pending request.
  • You can return to check pending requests by following the above instructions to return to the Leave Request area.
