Troubleshooting Corrupt Profiles in a Computer Lab

Summary

A guide on how to fix the corrupt profile notification that you may receive when logging back in too quickly after logging out.

Body

Issue

A corrupt profile can introduce a host of issues that will affect your ability to use the PC. You may experience many issues such as: the start button not working, the buttons in menus not working, and many other possible usability issues. These issues can usually be fixed by using the following resolution.

Another issue that is not as common is the temporary profile error. When logging into a PC in a campus computer lab, you may receive the error that states: "You've been signed in with a temporary profile. You can't access your files, and files created in this profile will be deleted when you sign out. To fix this, sign out and try signing in later."

Resolution

A corrupt profile occurs when you log back into a PC too quickly after logging out. To fix this, you must log out and wait one minute before logging in again so that the PC has time to delete the account that was previously logged in.

Doing so can help avoid many of the issues associated with corrupt profiles.
