About
You may want to give access to your email account or a shared email account to another person. Mail delegation allows the delegate to read, send, and delete messages on your behalf. For example, a manager can delegate email access to another person in their organization, such as an administrative assistant. Another great use for delegation is shared email accounts.
Environment
Google Chrome, Gmail.
Delegate Accounts vs. Google Chrome Profile
Delegates CAN ONLY:
- Send or reply to emails that were sent to the shared account.
- There is an option when setting up delegation for when the delegate sends a message, their email address can show. For example, the sender can show as "sent by johnsmith@gmail.com."
- Read messages sent to the shared account
- Delete messages sent to the shared account
Delegates CANT:
- Chat with anyone using the shared account
- Change the shared account password
- Manage the calendar
Your Chrome profile stores your browser settings, bookmarks, extensions, apps, and saved passwords. Sharing your Chrome profile gives users access to this information.
With profiles, you can keep all your Chrome info separate, like bookmarks, history, passwords, and other settings.
Profiles are ideal for:
When you are sharing a computer with multiple people.
Keeping your different accounts, like work and personal, separate.

Important things to note:
- Delegated accounts cannot be accessed via mobile applications, ONLY on computers.
