Creating a Channel in Microsoft Teams

In Microsoft Teams you can use channels to organize/focus work. For example, you can make a channel in a team for a particular project.

Environment

Steps

  • Navigate to Teams as you normally would.
  • Click into the team where you wish to add a channel.
  • In the left side, where you see your channels, click on the three dot button.
  • Click Add channel

  • Enter your channel name and select your channel type.
    • Channel types:
      • Standard (Everyone on the team has access)
      • Shared (People or teams inside our outside your org can have access)
      • Private (Specific people on the team have access)
  • When done, click Create at the bottom right.

  • Your channel is now added to the left side menu.
