This article reviews how to use Microsoft Stream to create a screen recording. (Note that Microsoft combined ClipChamp which is their video editing application into Stream.)
Environment
Microsoft Stream on a desktop browser.
Steps
- Navigate to Microsoft Stream using the Office 365 app menu.
- Along the top you will see options: Upload, Screen recording, Camera recording, Video project, and Playlist
- We are focusing on Screen recording so click Screen recording.

Hint: (It is recommended that you keep the Stream tab visible when working with it. The best practice when using this software is to use two monitors or to have two windows side by side on one monitor.)
- Take note of your options at the bottom.
- Camera allows you to have your webcam video in a little circle that will be on top of the screen recording. You can move that video and resize it to your liking.
- Mic enables your microphone for a voice over.
- Screen fills the screen with your webcam video.
- Script allows you to have your script available to read. You can set the pace of your auto scroll for your script so that you can use it hands free.
- Draw and effects allows you to highlight items on your screen recording.


- To get started, click the purple Start screen recording button.
- You will be provided options to record. Make sure that your Stream tab is always visible for best experience.
- Once you have made your selection, click the Share button at the bottom right of the pop up window.
- A countdown will commence and your screen recording will start.

- To pause a recording, click the pause button.
- When done, click the stop button.
- To start over click the button that is an arrow going left in a circle.

- The draw button allows you to draw over your video.
- The Effects button provides a plethora of effect options that you may find useful.

- When you stop the video, you are presented with the edit area where you can trim the video, delete it, record more, add music or open in the editor.

- The editor is a more advanced video editing software that allows for features like titles and transitions.
