If you work at Manhattan College or are a student, you are eligible to get a New York Public Library (NYPL) Card. With this privilege you may access thousands of books, videos and excellent training databases and websites.
Your library card is your key to the resources and services of all New York Public Library locations in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island. In addition to borrowing library materials, your card allows you to reserve a computer, download digital media, search hundreds of electronic databases, and more.
Steps
The following forms are for new applicants:
New York City Residents (within the 5 boroughs) & Non-Residents Who Work Or Attend School in NYC
Apply
- Submit a partial application online, then visit a library location to validate and pick up your card.
- Be sure to bring photo id and current proof of address. A list of accepted documents can be found here.
- Present your temporary barcode number and valid identification at a library public service desk to complete the application process.
- You may also visit any library location and fill out a paper application form.

New York State Residents (outside of NYC)
Apply
- You must live, work, attend school or pay property tax in New York state in order to qualify for a New York Public Library account.
- Your temporary online account will remain active for three months. To fully validate your account for a three-year period, please email proof of address to patronaccounts@nypl.org.

Some excellent resources you can have access to include Lynda.com. Lynda.com is an online educational site that includes over 5,000 courses (and over 130,000 videos) in popular fields like web design, web development, IT, education/instruction, media production, and business.
