About
Google is using Smart Compose, which is a new feature powered by artificial intelligence designed to help you draft emails from scratch faster.
With this new feature, you can quickly draft emails with confidence.
From your greeting to your closing (and common phrases in between), Smart Compose suggests complete sentences in your emails so that you can draft them with ease. Because it operates in the background, you can write an email like you normally would, and Smart Compose will offer suggestions as you type.
Steps
When writing an email, you will see suggestions that will appear. These suggestions will not be applied to your email until you allow it. When you see a suggestion that you like, click the Tab button on your keyboard to use it. Pressing the Tab button will immediately type in the phrase for you.
This feature is enabled by default. If you do not like this feature, you can disable it by going to:
- The Gear icon in the upper right of Gmail Home Screen
- Settings > Smart Compose > check "Writing Suggestion off”
